Pool Rules and Policies
Lifeguard Authority: Follow lifeguard instructions at all times for your safety.
Shower Before Entering: All swimmers must shower before entering the pool to maintain water quality and avoid eye and skin irritation.
Health and Hygiene:
- Do not swim or use the steam room if you have open wounds, contagious conditions, infections, or diarrhea.
- No spitting, spouting water, or blowing your nose in the pool on deck.
Proper Swimwear Required: Only wear appropriate swim attire; no jeans, street clothes, or thong swimsuits allowed.
Children and Non-Swimmers:
- Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
- Non-swimmers must stay in shallow areas unless accompanied by a competent swimmer.
Swim Diapers: Children who are not potty-trained must wear swim diapers to prevent contamination.
Use of Flotation Devices, Equipment, and Toys:
- All flotation must be U.S. Coast Guard approved and inspected by the lifeguard on duty.
- Inflatable toys and rafts are not allowed as they obstruct pool visibility.
- YMCA exercise and swim lesson equipment is reserved for program use only.
- Snorkels and fins are only permitted for lap swimmer use.
No Diving: Diving is not allowed to prevent head and neck injuries.
Jumping Into the Pool:
- Only jump feet-first and straight ahead.
Do not jump near other swimmers to avoid collisions.
No Running: Always walk on the pool deck to avoid slips and falls.
No Rough Play: Avoid pushing, dunking, or roughhousing to ensure everyone’s safety. Riding and standing on another person’s shoulders is not allowed.
No Glass Containers: Do not bring glass containers into the natatorium to prevent breakage and injury.
No Food or Drink in the Natatorium: Keep food and drinks away from the water to maintain cleanliness and safety.
No Alcohol, Tobacco, or Drugs: Swimming under the influence is strictly prohibited.
Hot Tub Rules and Policies
Shower before entering: All swimmers must shower before entering the hot tub to maintain water quality, and to avoid eye and skin irritation.
Age Requirement: Persons 16 years and older may use the hot tub. Children 15 and under are not permitted in the hot tub.
Respect Capacity Limits: Adhere to the maximum occupancy of 4 people per manufacturer guidelines. Overcrowding can reduce the water quality and effectiveness of the hot tub.
Soak Time Limit: Do not stay in the hot tub for more than 10 minutes at a time to avoid overheating and dehydration.
Temperature Control: Spa temperatures shall not exceed 104 degrees.
Health and Safety First
- Before entering the hot tub, ensure you are in good health. Individuals with medical conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, or who are pregnant, should consult with a doctor prior to use.
- Do not use spa if you have open wounds, contagious conditions, infections, or diarrhea.
- No spitting, urinating, blowing the nose, depositing foreign matter.
- Exit spa immediately if feeling dizzy, nauseous, lightheaded, or unwell in any way.
Weather Conditions: Spa will not be operated during severe weather conditions.
Weather Policy
In the event there is active lightning within 8 miles of the Blossman Facility, the Natatorium will close.This includes the indoor and outdoor pool, hot tub, and steam room.
Swim Test Rules
Swim Test:
- Swim length of pool (25 yards) facing forward.
- Tread water for 30 seconds.
- Float on your back for 30 seconds
- Exit pool independently
- Children 14 and under must complete swim test.
Children who pass swim test:
- Children 11-14: Can swim without a parent on deck
- Children 10 and under: May swim independently, but must have a parent on deck while in pool.
- Children who fail swim test: Must wear a lifejacket and have a parent in the water.
